Lawn Fawn Release Week: Blue Skies

tiffssunnyskiesHello Blogosphere!

It’s that time again, time for another Lawn Fawn Release! Today we’re showcasing Blue Skies Stamps and Lawn Cuts Dies!

For my layout, I doodled camo print using a Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Pitt Pen (S) onto some of the elements and then colored them in with Art Grip Colored Pencils. I used Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L 3D Foam Squares Regular & Thin to vary the dimension and depth of the embellishments!

The title uses Quinn’s ABCs stamps and then an hombre coloring technique using Art Grip Aquarelle Watercolor Pencils! The banners and stars were also colored with the same medium.

This layout is EVER so meaningful to me! During this deployment, I was a Point-of-Contact for our Family Readiness Group and there was one mom in particular who was diligent in asking questions and finding out information. We kept in contact since day 1 and occasionally she would email me to say thank you for doing my duties. Unfortunately, she couldn’t be there upon her son’s return, so the kids and I made a welcome home sign for him and showered him with hugs! I’ll be sending this layout to his mom this week :)

Well, I hope you’ll check out the Lawn Fawn Blog post….the projects are ABOVE & BEYOND amazing! No joke! And, I hear there’s a giveaway a day ;)

Thanks for stopping by,

Let’s be real…

_MG_8030Now, for your serious broadcast-

Everywhere I turn, I’m drawn to blog posts by other bloggers titled Instagram’s Envy Effect, Pressures of Social Media, and the like. There is a strange phenomenon happening. We are not only envious of the stars who show up on the glossy pages of the fashion magazines or the super models in the latest perfume ad, but we’re beginning to harbor strong resentment for our peers via social media outlets like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Tumblr, etc.

Personally, I’ve grown jealous of friends who post pictures of their bikini ready bodies, their genius kids, and perfectly styled homes. Some people make doing an updo look as easy as 1,2, 3, pin. Then there are the wives posting about the awesomeness that is their cooking, cleaning, organized, considerate, hands-on, family man of a husband. We don’t see the full story that is their life because we’re only privy to the small blips they choose to share with us.

Just like I’ve experienced jealousy through the looking glass, I know of a couple friends who have unfollowed me or hidden my feeds from their FB because of the very same feelings of resentment.

So, I’m going to do a bit of sharing today. This may be TMI for most, but I want to keep it real.

Let’s be real.

At my heaviest non-pregnant self, I weighed a shocking 165 lbs.

My husband is rarely home during the week. Right now, he’s deployed, so he’s never home.

My 3 kids sometimes drive me crazy & we go to bed in a tizzy. No stories read, no tucking in, no kisses or hugs, just plain exhaustion.

I have terrible self-confidence in my appearance.

My marriage is far less than perfect. We have weeks where we constantly bicker. We’ve used the D word in our most heated moments.

As a designer, I’ve let down manufacturers and friends more times than I’d like to admit.

There was a whole year during my pregnancy and a little after, I couldn’t bring myself to create anything of worth.

I sometimes make meals my family would rather leave for the dog than eat a few bites of.

At my darkest hour, I don’t log-in to Facebook or any social media for fear of overly happy accomplished friends.

I hide friends from my FB wall who are constant braggers or downers. I like to see a human-like balance!

I rarely “get dressed”. I’m always in gym clothes.

I haven’t had a haircut since January.

I have a good life, my husband works hard for what we have, I am proud of my accomplishments, proud of my children, but I, like you, have my every day struggles.  I think the more self-confidence we have, the less we’ll allow ourselves to feel lesser than or not equal to our peers we connect with through social media.

Next time you see your friend’s rock hard abs or her perfect children, just remember that she has her own personal struggles she faces every day. Just be happy. Happy for your friend, thankful for your life- successes and failures alike.

ALWAYS KEEP IT REAL.

My SUPER busy week!

Every 2nd week of the month I’m terribly busy fulfilling Army Wife duties… I have meetings throughout the beginning of the week for the FRG! Two today, one tomorrow and then a MOPS meeting in the a.m. the next day! I also have a swap that needs to be organized so that I can send it out immediately after getting in the last few! So, I won’t be crafting much for the next three days unless it’s angeling my own swap :( I really want to try that new Tim Holtz technique (faux bleaching), but I think just bleaching it would be easier? I don’t know, but I’ll post my work soon!

Happy 4th of July Folks

This morning I woke up to my worst nightmare! I have organized a charm swap and a gal (a great one at that) sent her’s to me over a week ago and it has not been delivered!!! I have searched high and low for it! The delivery confirmation says that it just left the atlanta processing station and that was on the 26th? UGH! I feel awful and I’m sure she’s livid, I would be!

Then, I remembered it was the 4th of July and not April Fool’s Day, so there should be no excuse for this…

Then, I remembered it was the 4th of July… This time last year, we lost a friend to the war in Iraq. Double UGH… This day will be spent in remembrance of that friend.

Happy 4th of July folks! Thank you to all the military servicemen and women out there!

Some much needed girl time…

Well, I can’t wait for lunchtime! I feel like a girl again. I have that feeling like time can not move fast enough! I’ve been around my hubby and kids for 2 weeks now and can use a little break ;) I’m going to scrapbook/make cards with Jess at lunchtime and I’ll post my results! Geez…I miss scrapbooking! I think with all the swaps I completed I felt a little scrapped-out? I have some pictures that need a home, but I’ll save those for another time… Blog ya soon!

Summer Tagging…

I just visited Gina K.’s blog and I loved her post reflecting on the three things she loves most about the summer! So, I wanted to share with everyone the three things I love about summer and if you post a comment with the three things you love most about this season, I’ll randomly pick a winner and send you something free via snail mail :)

My favorite thing about summer is having my hubby home for block leave. For the army, block leave is 2 weeks of uninterrupted vacation!!! Usually, we would go somewhere cooler than our desert home, but with the way gas prices are we decided to stay home. I love seeing the hubby with our two boys. He’s gone 2-3 weeks out of the month, so this has been a real enriching time for him and boys. They LOVE having daddy home and I love being able to have some real QAT (quality alone time) with me, myself, and my stamps ;) I also love his yummy breakfasts. He can’t cook or even boil water for that matter, but he can make some mean eggs!!!!

So, what three things do you love most about the summer??? And, don’t brag about your non-desert weather…lol!

swap results…

So, I was in a swap that I recently got back. I’m a little disappointed with what I received back. There were two items that were awesome, but the rest were poorly executed :( This is the first swap I’ve been in where I wasn’t happy with everything. I really feel like it was a waste of time and money, but lesson learned. I recently joined this monthly swap group, so we’ll see how that goes!

My Vintage Self

I had a formal tea to attend and since stuffy isn’t my style, I went vintage!!!!!

Swap Crazy

This week is hell week for me! I feel like I’m going crazy and all I do is do…lol! I have frg this today, frg that tomorrow, army wife this yesterday, 4 swaps due simultaneously, and two kids in diapers (to say the least)! My imac is out of commission and I have to use a PC :( Let’s just say I’m a bit rusty. Ugh, wish me luck. ♥

my mac’s keyboard died :(

I won’t be posting pictures for a little bit, just until my new keyboard comes in :( I made another ATC using microbeads and I can’t wait for you all to see it!
