for a friend…

Good Morning Blogosphere!

I don’t know if it’s the pregnancy hormones or just my true nurturing nature coming through, but today I’ve been in a very thoughtful mood… Last night, the hubby and I were talking about how odd it is that we’ve all ended up where we are today. I mean we ALL just had it figured out in High School and in College, right? LOL! Life’s twists and turns make for an interesting read on Facebook and every year around Christmas when we receive those yearly family newsletter updates. I have friends that are forever students, doctors, teachers at Julliard, mothers, engineers, soldiers, and we have those friends that we’ve lost.

Today and pretty much all week long, I’ve been thinking about my friends and loved ones that continue to fight cancer. I can’t imagine what they’re going through and can only wish them the best. I say a little prayer for each of them as I’m taking my morning strolls and as I drive around town. This card is for AJ Otto, a fellow stamper. She recently found out that she has breast cancer and you can read her announcement on her blog here. She’s a fellow crafter, mother, wife, friend, and Washingtonian. I hope you all will take a moment to put her on your short-list of people to pray/send positive thoughts for.

Okay…enough sniffles! Here’s how I made the card! See that little applique thingy on the side? That’s an old Pink Paislee Artisan Element (which are sticky fabric things), remember those from last year? Well, I took a green gelato, colored some down on my crafting surface, and added a little water (enough to make a paste). Then I took a broad paintbrush to lift up the color and applied it to the crevices of the applique. Then I took a Stamper’s Big Brush marker and created a wash and applied the color to the rest of the applique. I tried to keep the dark color at the bottom and light color toward the top, making a gradient. Then I splattered some of the leftover ink all over the main image panel and created another wash with a purple marker!

Thanks for joining me,

Materials: Lawn Fawn Stamps (Schoolhouse Backdrops), Pink Paislee Artisan Elements, Tim Holtz Newsprint Alphabet, October Afternoon Paper, SU Spiral Notebook Punch, Waxy Flax
