I try.

Hello Blogosphere!

I’m going to get on my soapbox this afternoon.

I’m not feeling well, my husband is deployed, and I’m tired…

Lately, I’ve been getting negative feedback from my videos.

Here are some things you may or may not know about me:

1. I am no professional video production artist.

2. I love teaching people & enjoy the artistic outlet I find in making videos.

3. I do not own the top-of-the-line equipment. In fact, I use my iMac (2009), iMovie, and my iPhone to make videos. It’s in no way, shape, or form a professional set-up.

4. I have invested in better studio lighting.

5. I read any and all video editing books, forums, and misc. info for iMovie.

6. iMovie crashes every single time I go to edit something.

7. I DO NOT GET PAID to create videos. If I did, I would invest in better editing software and an external mic. Maybe I’d buy a better computer.

8. I make videos TO SHARE my joy of crafting.

I always appreciate constructive criticism in a kind and classy manner. Perhaps an email would be better than posting a negative comment? Can’t we all just play nicely?

…off my soapbox.

Don’t let them get to you sweetie – I bet not one of them has the guts or skill to make a video of their own. We all love your videos, and appreciate all the time you put into them!! Hugs!!

    love to you girly. xox

  3. melstampz April 7, 2013 at 3:16 pm

Aw, no fun. Easier said than done, but don’t listen to anyone who says anything crumby. Your videos are perfection! I’m so grateful for all of the hard work that you put into sharing them with us. Perhaps they meant it as constructive criticism, but maybe their Mommas just never taught them what Thumper from Bambie puts so well “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all” ;-) You rock, and I hope your husband is home with you soon. Sending hugs. xo

oh Tiffany! I am so sorry you are getting negative feedback about your videos! They look amazing! Don’t let it get you down!

  5. Tanis April 7, 2013 at 3:23 pm

Absolutely ridiculous. They are NOT paying to watch your AMAZING talent. They are getting PHENOMENAL ideas and teaching for FREE. Shake it off, Tiff. There are always going to be people out there who will find one piece of sand in a truckload of diamonds. Keep on doing what you love ♥

  6. Kim J. April 7, 2013 at 3:26 pm

Love you tons!! You do a great job–mean people are just mean.

  7. Amyscats April 7, 2013 at 3:27 pm

I applaud you and agree 100 percent! I’m not looking to you to provide a professional grade video, just to share your ideas and enthusiasm. Good for you for dragging out the soap box and getting up there, even if it wasn’t easy. And God bless your husband for his service, and you, too. The entire family serves when one member does.

  8. fibrejunky April 7, 2013 at 3:47 pm

****hugs**** You do a fantastic job. Ignore the naysayers.

  9. Lorena April 7, 2013 at 4:05 pm

Oh, no Tiff! Sending you a big hug. Don’t let other’s bitterness affect you! You are an amazing and super generous crafter who is sharing her knowledge with everyone out there. Puting yourself out there in that way is what I call being brave (oh, and juicing is even braver! I’m too chicken to try!). Mwah!

  10. Teresa April 7, 2013 at 4:09 pm

How dare they! I bet they’re anonymous comments too. You’re braver than they’ll ever be – don’t even think about stopping what you do – we love you!

  11. Donna April 7, 2013 at 4:31 pm

    Tiffany,
Ignore the haters. There are some people who aren’t happy unless they’re miserable. You will never make these people happy. I appreciate all that you share. I always learn from your blog. Please keep doing what you’re doing and thank you.

  12. Kathi R April 7, 2013 at 4:34 pm

Hugs. Any time anyone shares anything on a blog, be it a video, a photo, a simple post, or a long rambling narrative (who me?), that person is putting her/himself out there, probably for the simple joy of sharing the excitement or knowledge gained by crafting something.

Constructive criticism can be helpful, but should be done privately.

    Sorry you’re down.

    Hope you feel better soon.

    More hugs.

I read your soapbox and got furious FOR you. What is with people? I have NEVER AND WILL NEVER make negative commentson people’s videos. If it isn’t my cup of tea I say nothing and move on. I realize u don’t fet paid and certainly don’r have to go to a huge effort to help me learn how to make pretties like you do. If I haven’t said how grateful I am and how much I enjoy yours, plz accept my gratitude. You have every right to feel the way you feel.

  14. contadinak April 7, 2013 at 4:56 pm

Oh Tiffany, I know how you feel. I’ve been getting a lot of negative criticism lately, too. I put tons of effort into the latest vid, and all this critic could say was that I needed to buy a straw lol! I try to remember that our videos are accessible to EV-ER-Y-ONE, including those who are miserable and would love nothing more than to make us miserable. When I think about it that way, I feel badly for them more than I feel badly about myself.

  15. Kelly Bertram April 7, 2013 at 5:02 pm

((hugs)) and thank you for the service you and your husband provide for our country. Ignore the “haters” . thanks for sharing all your work!

I guess you have to stop tying these people up and forcing them to watch your videos!!! If they want to criticize you needlessly, I suggest they go on UTube and watch some of those videos! How many times I’ve stopped a video because it was so inferior be it the blurriness, the crafter was so slow I was falling asleep, etc. I don’t criticize these people, I just don’t watch their videos.

I just watched a few of your videos yesterday because I haven’t been able to get on blogs I subscribe to (IP problems) so I needed to get caught up. After reading your message, I purposely watched one of your videos again to see what they are talking about.

I haven’t a clue. Your work area is clean, you speak precisely, no shaking or blurriness of your equipment, your techniques, tips and tricks are great. In fact, you’re one of the reasons I bought Gelatos! I got an email from Faber Castell a while ago when they had their Craft Memory products on sale. Gelatos looked interesting but I didn’t know what to do with them. That’s when I saw your videos, liked what I saw and bought the gelatos and some of their other products (twice!). That’s also when I subscribed to your blog so I could see what you do with them. I’ve gone on other people’s blogs who use Gelatos too. Much too artsy for me, your finished projects are “normal” – whatever “normal” is!! LOL

I can’t comment on these people’s negative comments because I don’t know where to look on your blog to see what they criticized you for. Perhaps if I could have seen the actual comments it would make more sense to me and I could have interpreted them in a different way. What I mean is a lot of people do not proofread what they write. I do proofread and yet I still send things out wrong! Lol! For example I have forgotten to type the word “not” consequently it totally changed the content!

Sometimes people just have different views. I live in a downstairs condo. The idiots above me run on a treadmill eleven o’clock at night (my colon key isn’t working that’s why I had to spell out the time – by the way I just typed “color” instead of “colon” which would have made no sense to you if I didn’t catch it!). Anyway, I was complaining to a friend that I can’t believe they run on a treadmill over my head so late at night for ½-1 hour. She saw nothing wrong with that!! Her comment was how much noise does running on a treadmill make?!! My point is here are two different views – I’m negative about them running on a treadmill so late at night over my head, she feels there’s no reason to complain – running on a treadmill does not cause a lot of noise even though it’s over my head! My point is we all see and experience things differently. She doesn’t see where I’m coming from and I definitely don’t see where she’s coming from!

The only thing I can think of is you’re the Jay Leno in the cardmaking world! Totally popular but media criticized for no reason!

Keep up the great work, many of us benefit from your videos even Faber Castell since I bought their products because of you!!!!

By the way, I read in your message your husband is deployed. Do you make cards for OWH because of that?

Take Care and feel better mentally, emotionally and physically soon!!

Aw, sorry to hear people being negative to your video, Tiffany. I don’t think people realize the amount of work that goes into making the video. It’s easy to criticize people. You know in my book you are awesome. Hugs.

  18. tsurutadesigns April 7, 2013 at 5:21 pm

I’m sorry. Every time I hear about the war I think of you and your family. You are in my heart and mind. You go and enjoy making your videos. We love you!!

  20. mandee125 April 7, 2013 at 6:17 pm

You are great. I enjoy your videos very much and look forward to them. Some people are just jealous and strike back in a negative way because they are sour on life. Don’t listen to those negative people. BIG Hugs.

  21. Shauna K April 7, 2013 at 6:21 pm

awww! you should just tell them to go pound sand ;) Try not to let them get you down- you’re an awesome crafter and they’re probably just jealous! *huggs*

Just wanted to say I was really upset to hear how mean people have been, I love your work , think you’re amazing to be able to do what you do…all I can say is try and ignore them, they will be the type who don’t do blogs, etc themselves, but feel they have a right to criticize others who are braver than them and put their work out there. Take care, hope you feel better soon, hope your husband stays safe and returns to you soon,

Hold your head up high, those types truly aren’t worth the worry, Love from a fan from Australia (Debbie )

  26. Catherine Oakley April 8, 2013 at 2:31 pm

I love that you are willing to take the time to even create and post the videos in the first place and I am so sorry to hear that you’re getting negative comments and feedback. You share your work because of your love for the craft and I for one truly appreciate that you show us the techniques you use because your cards and projects are art and you use methods I don’t know how to do so I learn so much. Thank you and know that there are so many more of us out here that love watching your videos!

  27. Ruza April 9, 2013 at 8:21 pm

    Dear sweet lady! I know that I said this on FB, but I think you do an amazing job on everything you do. Don’t listen to all of the crazy people who don’t appreciate all the time and effort you put into your work! {hugs}
